Boomerang

Boomerang
Introduction
There are two types of boomerang- retuning and non-retuning. The retuning boomerangs were invented by the Australia Aborigines thousands of years ago and unique to Australia. The returning boomerang was used by the Aborigines to catch animal. Because of its wide arc of flight, the returning boomerang was never used in warfare. Non-returning boomerangs for hunting larger prey, such as kangaroo, were used for small prey as well. These throw sticks fly in a nearly straight path when thrown horizontally and are heavy enough to take down a kangaroo on impact to the legs or knees. For hunting emu, the throw stick is aimed toward the bird's neck, in an attempt to break it.

Innovative about boomerang

Today, boomerangs are mostly used as sporting items. There are different types of throwing contests: accuracy of return, Aussie round,   trick catch, maximum time aloft, fast catch, and endurance. The modern sport boomerang (often referred to as a ‘boom’ or ‘rang’), is made of Finnish birch plywood, hardwood, plastic or composite materials and comes in many different shapes and colors.
A boomerang is usually thought of as a wooden device cut from a tree trunk, although historically boomerang-like devices have also been made from bones.
Boomerang innovations can be developed in two areas: materials and design. As new materials are developed that are strong, durable, and lightweight, boomerang makers will try using them individually or in combination. For example, the boomerang that flew for more than 17 minutes consisted of a two-layer outer shell of carbon fibers and Kevlar; the shell was filled with epoxy resin mixed with phenolic microballoons.
Two recent innovations suggest ways that designs can be modified to improve aerodynamics. One involved making the upper and lower surfaces of the trailing edges of a boomerang's wings slightly concave. Normally, these surfaces are flat or slightly convex. This design was used for the boomerang that set the current world record for distance. In the other example, a boomerang's wing tips were cut at an angle that made them perpendicular to imaginary lines leading to the center of rotation. Usually, the wing tips are perpendicular to the centerline of the wings. This modification was created by the holder of the unofficial MTA rec

The idea start

Beginning in the latter part of the twentieth century there has been a bloom in the independent creation of unusually designed art boomerangs. These often have little or no resemblance to the traditional historical ones and on first sight some of these objects often do not look like boomerangs at all. The use of modern thin plywood’s and synthetic plastics has greatly contributed to their success. As long as there are somewhere in the object several airfoil contoured surfaces, whether wing shaped or not, these boomerangs can be thrown and will return. Designs are amazingly diverse and can range from animal inspired forms, humorous themes, complex calligraphic and symbolic shapes, to the purely abstract. Painted surfaces are similarly richly diverse.
The Boomerang Association of Australia was formed on 11 September 1969 in Melbourne. The Boomerang Association of Australia is the primary Australian boomerang club. The club’s first publication was called Quarterly Newsletter. In 1973, this became the Boomerang Bulletin and there have been over 100 issues of that magazine since then, thus forming the authoritive history of boomerangs in Australia and world-wide. In 1971, the BAA held their inaugural Australian National Boomerang Championships “the Nationals” in Albury, New South Wales, since then they have been held annually, all over Australia. In 2002, the BAA Handbook was created. The Handbook is the single most complete compilation of information about boomerangs and the Association ever available, and is regularly updated to record the history of the Association and all things boomerang-related.

How could/did the innovator judge the likely success of the innovation?

Recently, the competitions on boomerang throwing become more popular. Many local competitions in different state and even in international stage are held regularly. With the boomerang competition from various countries, the need for certainly boomerang will be more. As people who follow the competition will buy some boomerang to follow the competition, and the spectators or tourists who come, it will also buy a souvenir boomerang return to below.
Though still of modest scope, the sport of boomerang throwing is experiencing rapid growth and regularly finding new devotees in many nations of the world. The boom is recent. Although boomerangs have been used as war and hunting tools for more than 20 millennia, it was not until the decade of the 1970s that boom throwing became an organized competitive sport. In the United States, there are now scores of local and regional contests annually and, since 1980, an annual national championship. There are similar competitions in a number of foreign countries, notably Australia, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Japan. And, for the last decade, there has been a series of well-attended international competitions. Since the boomerang is most often associated with Australia, one might expect that the Aussies dominate world competition.

How could/did the innovator protect the idea from competitors?

  Protecting Your Idea With Patents

A patent can protect how your idea works. It can protect what it is made of, and even how it is made. It does not protect the appearance of your idea. For that you must register a Design Right. So if your idea has a new function or any technical elements, use a patent to protect them.  Keep the idea secret! Conduct your own searches to see what else is out there.  Have a professional patent search conducted before you invest any money in your idea to make sure that the idea is not already owned by someone else

Protecting your idea in conversations
You need to know when and with whom you should discuss invention ideas. These example when and with whom you should discuss invention ideas:
Ø  Once you have obtained a patent or patent pending status
Ø  When you need to hire or partner with someone to create your idea
Ø  When the person with whom you are speaking is bound by a non-disclosure agreement
Ø  When you are working with a patent attorney on your patent application
If none of these four conditions are met, there is a good chance that discussing your idea may sabotage its prospects for success. No matter what the excuse or rationalization, idea-related communication that does not fall along these lines can be dangerous.
Unfortunately, many inventors fall into the trap of informal conversations about their inventions with outsiders. Before we outline the correct methods of discussing invention ideas, it is helpful to debunk some of the most common excuses for discussing them inappropriately.

How was the idea funded? Suggest another suitable funding source.

In the beginning, personal funding is the only source in boomerang production. As the demand of boomerang arises, a scheme has been popular in the development of small scale home industry.

Environmental impact of the innovation

Environmental impact of the innovation is Protect the Aboriginal culture, which boomerang was created by Aboriginal people since thousands years ago.

The innovations contribution to Australia society

This innovation will contribute to Australian society in two ways. The first one, the competition in boomerang sport will contribute in enriching entertainment variation in society in order to strengthening the Australian physically. This will warrant for better quality of the human resources in the future while maintain the tradition of Australian ancestor. The second one, the innovation on boomerang design, has been encouraging people to collect different types boomerang. Tourist even consider boomerang as top priority souvenir to collect when they visit Australia.
